1. Who is responsible for your information
Badikwa Logistics operates the Badikwa marketplace and is responsible for personal information where it determines why and how that information is processed. This Policy is intended to explain that processing in accordance with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and applies to customer use of the Badikwa website, Progressive Web App and related marketplace services.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the Platform, we may process:
- name, email address, mobile number and account credentials;
- profile picture and account preferences;
- pickup, delivery and additional-stop locations;
- moving dates, inventory, property/access information, helpers, packing or wrapping requirements and booking instructions;
- requests, quotes received, selected bookings, cancellations and reviews;
- messages and support communications;
- payment and transaction references where payments are processed or facilitated;
- device, browser, IP address, session, security and error information.
3. Why we use the information
We process customer information for purposes including account creation and authentication, phone verification, creating and matching requests, obtaining quotes, facilitating bookings, providing customer support, sending operational notifications, preventing fraud, handling complaints and disputes, maintaining security, complying with legal obligations and improving the Platform.
4. Request and quote-stage information
To allow Movers to decide whether to quote, Badikwa may display relevant request information to eligible Movers. Where the Platform is designed to protect exact contact/location details before booking, masked or limited request information may be used.
Depending on the marketplace screen, a customer display name or profile picture may be visible to a participating Mover. Direct contact information and full booking details are shared only where reasonably required by the marketplace and confirmed-service flow.
5. Information shared with the selected Mover
The selected Mover must use that information for legitimate booking, service, support and record-keeping purposes and must not use it for unrelated spam or unauthorised marketing.
6. Quote results after booking
After a booking, participating Movers who submitted quotes for that request may be shown final marketplace quote results involving the quoting companies, such as company names, marketplace levels, quote amounts and which company was selected. This does not give unsuccessful Movers a right to additional customer-private contact information merely because the quote results become visible.
7. Messages
Messages sent through the Platform may be stored and processed to provide messaging, maintain a transaction record, investigate complaints, resolve disputes, detect fraud or abuse, protect users, enforce marketplace rules and comply with legal obligations.
When a quote window closes, quote-stage conversations may become read-only while existing messages remain retained as a record.
8. Who we may share information with
We may share information where reasonably necessary with the selected Mover, participating Movers to the limited extent needed for marketplace functionality, payment providers, hosting and technology providers, mapping/location providers, messaging or notification services, security/fraud-prevention providers, professional advisers and regulators or authorities where legally required.
Badikwa does not sell customer personal information to advertisers.
9. Payments
Where payments are processed through the Platform, Badikwa and/or an authorised payment provider may process transaction amount, date, reference, payment status and related booking information. Full payment-card details may be handled directly by the payment provider and may not be stored by Badikwa.
10. Operational notifications
We may send service-related notifications about account security, phone verification, requests, quotes, messages, bookings, cancellations, moving dates, reviews and important Platform changes. These operational communications are separate from optional marketing.
11. Direct marketing
Where direct-marketing consent is required, it will be requested separately. Accepting the Terms of Use or acknowledging this Privacy Policy does not by itself subscribe you to optional marketing communications. You may object to or opt out of direct marketing as provided by law.
12. Cookies and local storage
The Platform may use cookies, local storage or similar technology to keep you signed in, maintain sessions, remember preferences, support security and provide required functionality. Where legally required, appropriate information or choices will be provided for non-essential technologies.
13. Security
Badikwa uses reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, misuse, alteration, destruction and unlawful disclosure. No electronic service can guarantee absolute security. If a reportable security compromise occurs, Badikwa will respond in accordance with applicable South African law.
14. Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or as required or permitted by law. Retention may depend on active accounts, completed or disputed bookings, financial or tax requirements, fraud prevention, complaints, enforcement matters and legitimate record-keeping needs.
15. Your privacy rights
Subject to POPIA and other applicable law, you may request confirmation of whether Badikwa holds personal information about you, access to that information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion or destruction where appropriate, or object to certain processing. You may also withdraw consent where processing relies on consent and object to direct marketing.
Some requests may be limited where retention or processing is required or permitted for legal, contractual, security, fraud-prevention or dispute purposes.
16. Account closure
You may request account closure. Closing an account does not necessarily require immediate deletion of all records. Badikwa may retain information needed for completed transactions, legal obligations, financial records, disputes, fraud prevention or enforcement, and will handle information that is no longer required appropriately.
17. Cross-border processing
Some technology providers may process information outside South Africa. Where personal information is transferred across borders, Badikwa will take steps required by applicable law to ensure an appropriate level of protection.
18. Children
The customer marketplace is intended for people legally able to create accounts and enter booking arrangements. Badikwa does not intentionally use the customer marketplace to collect children’s personal information without an appropriate lawful basis and safeguards.
19. Changes to this Policy
Badikwa may update this Privacy Policy for legal, security, operational or product changes. If a material new version requires renewed acknowledgement, the Platform may ask you to review it before continuing.
